Rachel R. Harman, Ph.D.
My primary teaching objective is to create an active learning environment in which students critically think through problems and construct their own answers supported by experimental and literary research.
I have a Secondary Teaching Life Science License and am equally passionate about teaching and research.
I am a proponent of an inquiry-based curriculum that is scaffolded. In my classes, I encourage students to make the connections between ecological concepts, often before providing them with the terminology to do so. Eventually, students should be able to ask questions, design experiments, and discuss the importance of their results with little help from me as the instructor.
I hope to develop each student into independent scientists that see inquiry not only in the biology classroom, but in every subject and in their everyday routines.
